On faculty accountability (or lack thereof)
From a long ago email, discussing participation in a faculty development workshop:
I know we are providing something of value. I just continue to find the general deference and acceptance of faculty members' lack of accountability and unwillingness to follow through on commitments—not to mention the routine abandonment of even the pretense of the educational values they purport to employ—mystifying. We are talking about one of the most privileged groups of people in the country.

Lossless Audio Conversion and Playback
Current audio chain for conversion from lossless (FLAC, usually) to MP3: FLAC file → MediaHuman Audio Converter (Lame MP3 VBR 2 … I don’t have golden ears) → KID3 Tagger → to a carefully organized set of folders.
For playback I’ve just been using VLC or the free version of Vox but am looking around at other solutions. I like things simple: don’t use Apple Music or iTunes but do “scrobble” (track my listening) with Last.
